Waverly’s Dark Corners, Ewan of the Order
WYNONNA EARP – Episode 205 – Let’s Pretend We’re Strangers – SPOILERS ⁓
The Order, wearing red-robes with beaked hoods that resemble those worn by the beaked plague doctors of the seventeenth century, have captured someone possessed by a demon. After they summarily decapitate the man, the leader of The Order removes his hood and asks: “Who wants Nachos?”

Waverly tied to a kitchen chair and Wynonna possessed by Mikshun on the floor of a jail cell.
Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) is still possessed by the demon that jumped into her from its previous host Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), who is now entirely human and tied to a kitchen chair. Waverly tries to get Doc’s attention when he comes to pick up Wynonna, but fails. Dolls (Shamier Anderson) arrives and Waverly convinces him that the demon is in Wynonna now. (We find out that Waverly’s favourite soup is “sweet and sour soup with a dollop of peanut butter”.) Then Lucado (Kate Drummond) shows up and tries to arrest Dolls, forcing Waverly to untie herself and fire a warning shotgun blast to stop the two Black Badge agents from fighting.
At the office, Doc (Tim Rozon) presents Jeremy (Varun Saranga) with the plate from the 1952 Purgatory Fair captured from demons in “She Ain’t Right” (episode 2.4). Using his optical coherence tomographer, Jeremy takes a picture of what’s underneath the paint on the plate and a seal is revealed, which Wynonna points out is also the seal of the Purgatory Volunteer Fire Department. That plate will play a significant role in “I Hope You Dance” (episode 2.12).
Wynonna and Doc pay the firefighters a visit. The Fire Chief is Ewan Allenback (Brendan Fehr). He is also the head of The Order, and he figures out that Wynonna is possessed, but says nothing about it. After leaving the firehouse. Doc reaches the same conclusion, and asks why she doesn’t have Peacemaker. “Wynonna Earp never leaves the house without that gun, and she drinks her coffee black,” he says, and tosses Wynonna into the trunk of his car. Doc takes her to jail, where Dolls cuts off her left pinky finger for Lucado to analyze hoping to find a way to force the demon out.
Dolls and Lucado sent Waverly and Doc to look for a sample of the black goo they knew wouldn’t be there, but Juan Carlos (Shaun Johnston) explains that any traces of the goo were removed long ago by The Order and that Wynonna is in danger, so they head back to town. Earlier, Juan Carlos had an interesting conversation with Ewan of The Order.
EWAN: “She is infected. The final one under Mikshun’s influence.”
JUAN CARLOS: “The Heir could be an ally.”
EWAN: “Ally? I have neither the patience nor the time to babysit the latest Earp.”
JUAN CARLOS: “She has people who care about her, Ewan. Could be they find a way.”
EWAN: “And give the demon a chance to multiply? Again? I have lost two men this month, and the rest of us are exhausted…An insignia seal has been exposed. Broken. Would you happen to know anything about that?”
JUAN CARLOS: “We all have a role to play. The Heir and her position should not be taken lightly.”
EWAN: “The Order appreciates your guidance, Juan Carlo. We always have, but they follow my word. We end it tonight.”

Tomographic image of the seal hidden on the Purgatory Fair plate. The inscription on the seal reads: “praesidium et conservatio” (protection and preservation).
In “Shed Your Skin” (episode 2.2) Wynonna discovered a broken seal, located in a hidden chapel, and destroyed the creatures protecting it. Afterward, she remarked regretfully: “when we took out the eggs, we cleared a path for whoever came and did this.”
Waverly visits her sister in jail and, being familiar with the ways of the demon, convinces it to leave Wynonna and return to her. Before it does, the demon tells Waverly “you’ve got dark corners you haven’t explored yet.” The darker aspects of Waverly won’t show up until “No Cure For Crazy” (Episode 3.4).
As Lucado is analyzing Wynonna’s detached pinkie (which grew back almost immediately) she hears the demon singing to her, although Dolls, who is in the same room, hears nothing. “Black Badge won’t have me. I don’t want to be alone,” she says, and touches the goo sample. She is possessed but it doesn’t take, and after warning Dolls to stay back, her head explodes.
Wynonna and Doc pursue possessed Waverly to the Earp homestead, as does The Order. Though according to Dolls there are nine different plants that can be used to unbind a demon from the host, The Order prefers to kill the demon by killing the person possessed.
In exchange for the Purgatory Fair plate with the seal on it, Ewan allows Wynonna to attempt to save her sister. Waverly is forced to drink a concoction of sagebrush, sandalwood, and tamarisk, which forces Mikshun (sometimes spelled Mictian) from her body, Then Wynonna shoots the demon, which is now in reptilian form.
At the sheriff’s office, Dolls tells Jeremy that Lucado is dead and they need to formulate a strategy on how to approach HQ. Jeremy explains that when he tried to deliver images of the plate for analysis, Headquarters was empty and all of Black Badge was gone.
Meanwhile, at the homestead, Waverly tells Wynonna: “…when the demon jumped back into me, it was different. It told me things about you.” Then she hands her sister a pregnancy test. Dig Down Deep, by Maggie Koerner, plays in the background as Wynonna takes the test and gets a positive result.
