He Who Fights Too Long Against Dragons…
WYNONNA EARP – Episode 204 – She Ain’t Right – SPOILERS ⁓
As she wanders outside shortly after dawn, Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), who now collects shiny things, finds Dolls’ dog tags lying on the ground. Later, Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) will accidentally wear Waverly’s jacket, find those dog tags, and figure out that Dolls is hiding in her barn. She has to knock him out to get him to Shorty’s, where Doc (Tim Rozon) and Rosita (Tamara Duarte) are reverse engineering the medicine that keeps Dolls human.
The demon possessing Waverly seems focused on collecting trinkets and having fun. The demons infesting the Gardner family, on the other hand, are nasty. They tell Tucker he was the reason they chose his sisters for disguises. (They peeled the faces from Mercedes and Beth and wear them as masks. Both of the now faceless Gardner sisters are being kept alive for unknown reasons. Faux Mercedes (Dani Kind) tells Tucker: “You’re too angry and too dark to be locked up. You need space to let your darkness grow. We intend to nurture your prowess.”

A courier (Curt McKinstry) devours a croissant.
References to food abound. Faux Mercedes is amazed by the taste of bacon. The courier handcuffed to Edwin Earp’s briefcase swipes a croissant shortly before he gets his hand chopped off. Agent Haught (Kat Barrell) is unhappy with her gluten-free pizza lunch. And what Edwin Earp hid in that briefcase is a plate. Waverly says the town is close to getting a vegetarian restaurant, and the demon inside Waverly pilfers cutlery.
After being enlisted by Lucado (Kate Drummond) to infiltrate a demon-controlled jazz club called “Ba Ding, Ba Ding“, Waverly is captured by Jaxon (Billy Mclellan), the demon who earlier stole Edwin Earp’s briefcase from a courier who was handcuffed to it (by severing his hand). But before that she gets to sing ‘Girls Are Like Guns‘ (written by Sam Tinnesz, K.S. Rhoads and Soren Bryce Martin).

Faux Beth (Meghan Heffern)
Edwin’s briefcase has a combination lock, the combination to which is simply Edwin’s birthday (18 June 1940), and Waverly is able later to google that information. Jaxon must not have had the patience for research, or perhaps he expected a more obscure combination. Or he might just like chopping people’s hands off because he chops off Waverly’s hand as well.
Wynonna, who was captured trying to rescue her sister, manages to dial Doc’s number with the heel of her shoe, and Doc shows up to rescue both of the Earps, and Waverly’s hand grows back. Apparently the demon possessing her is responsible for that, because later it says “Do you know how much energy it takes to grow back a human hand?”
Waverly and Wynonna take the briefcase to Shorty’s where Dolls (Shamier Anderson) has just administered a strong dose of the medicene prepared for him by Rosita and Doc. When Jaxon comes there after the briefcase, Dolls breathes fire, damaging Jaxon, but not fatally. Wynonna eventually shoots the demon. Inside the briefcase they find a commemorative plate from the 1952 Purgatory Fair. The reason everyone is after that plate becomes clear in “I Hope You Dance” (Episode 2.12). Dolls will breathe fire in that episode as well.
The demon possessing Waverly thinks Wynonna will be easier to deal with as a host, so it transfers itself to Wynonna through a kiss. It had an opportunity (last episode) to kiss Tucker Gardner (Caleb Ellsworth-Clark) and transfer itself to his body, but did not. The spirit of the black goo still hasn’t done anything terribly evil. It just seems to want to have fun.
The upshot of all this is that Dolls is back to normal. Wynonna can’t use Peacemaker anymore. The Gardner sisters, Beth and Mercedes, are hidden in a closet, and probably in a lot of pain, while facsimiles of them cultivate Tucker’s ‘prowess’.
