The Curse of the Stuffed Black Cat
LOST GIRL – Episode 505 – It’s Your Lucky Fae – SPOILERS ⁓
Nobody knows what to get Bo for her birthday so Lauren (Zoie Palmer) and Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten) get her a plot device, a magical stuffed cat that brings luck to (and eventually destroys) its owner. This leads to some of the best Anna Silk scenes in the series as she gradually transforms into a cat.
Someone actually named Kat (Sophia Troop) distracts Mark (Luke Bilyk) with her tongue while Iris (Shanice Banton), steals Trick’s ledger. It is Heratio, aka Hera, who ends up with Trick’s ledger, and her motives are so far unclear.
Cassie (Vanessa Matsui) has dinner with Heratio (Noam Jenkins). who she met through an online dating service. He seems nice enough to warrant an invite back to her place. He leaves after kissing her goodnight, and Cassie is happy for about a minute, then begins screaming. When Bo looks for her the next day, Cassie’s apartment has blood everywhere, and she is nowhere to be found.
A captive Cassie speed dials Bo by accident, and Bo decides to use her newfound favourable luck to locate the missing oracle. She blindfolds herself and hops behind the wheel of the Camaro. Tamsin and Lauren are reluctant to ride with a blind driver, but Tamsin decides that she trusts Bo enough to do it, and Lauren won’t be outdone by Tamsin, so both of them get in the car, and a blindfolded Bo takes them for a ride. Like most 1969 North American automobiles, Bo’s car is not equipped with seat belts.
Later, during a bar fight with Kat’s boyfriend (Michael Dufays), Mark inadvertently causes Lauren to get a face full of birthday cake. Lauren does not believe in good luck charms, hence the cat conveys bad luck upon her, but none of ill-fortune conferred is very serious. The face-in-the-cake scene would certainly have worked better with Kenzi Ksenia Solo there to comment.
The curse of the cat is dispelled by transferring it to one of Cassie’s less pleasant relatives, Seymour (Dax Ravina), who was last seen in “Dead Lucky” (Episode 1.5), and in the end, Bo finally gets a decent birthday present, a gift-wrapped Tamsin. Now that’s the sort of thing a succubus needs.
NOTES
Dax Ravina (Cassie’s cousin Seymour) is Charlie in April Mullen’s psychological thriller 88, and Stephannie Hawkins (Tamsin’s stunt double), is also in the cast. Ravina is also Tim in Tim Brown’s crime comedy THE RETIREMENT PLAN.
Luke Bilyk (Mark) is Jace in HELLIONS, a horror/thriller which stars Chloe Rose (who was Julia Jenkins in the LOST GIRL episode “Lovers, Apart“) as Dora, a newly pregnant teen who is confronted on Halloween by a pack of tiny trick-or-treating demons who are after her baby. Bilyk will also be Wade in Nicole Dorsey‘s upcoming sports thriller BALESTRA.
