Hunting Revenants with the Valkyries
LOST GIRL – Episode 411 – End of a Line – SPOILERS ⁓
Kenzi (Ksenia Solo), Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten), and Bo (Anna Silk) try to decide what film to watch. One of the contenders is a zombie flick called “Flesh Eating Blues” and another is a vampire movie called “Big Fangs on Campus”.) Bo goes to the kitchen for snacks and an actual zombie of the pre-George-Romero sort (called revenants in this episode) appears in the kitchen behind Bo, and is unaffected when run through by her sword. Tamsin’s old valkyrie friend Acacia (Linda Hamilton) arrives, dispatches the revenant by chopping off its head, and says: “You must be Bo.” Tamsin is surprised to see Acacia because in “The Delinquents” (episode 3.11), The Wanderer sent her Acacia’s severed hand.
Massimo (Tim Rozon) grew Acacia a new hand, and she is now a revenant hunter. Both Tamsin and Acacia think Rainer (Kyle Schmid) sent the revenant after Bo. Hoping to prove Rainer didn’t do it, Bo agrees to investigate who sent the zombie. In the course of that investigation, Bo and Acacia engage in some friendly wrestling (spontaneously filmed by Harvey (Scott McCord), a guy they are questioning named. Bo smashes Harvey’s camera with her boot heel and tells him: “send me the bill”. It is notable that she destroyed the camera, and not the memory card inside it.
A short time later, they encounter voodoo priestess Laveau (Marci T. House). It turns out that Laveau sent the revenants after Bo because after hearing that Bo killed the Una Mens, she assumed Bo acquired the Origin Seed. (Bo doesn’t have it.) The only way to control a revenant (we learn) is to drink its blood. This leads to Bo drinking blood straight from the severed head of the voodoo priestess.
While Bo is hunting revenants and wrestling Valkyries, Kenzi’s mother Galina (Linda Kash) and cousin Dimitri (Ian Matthews) come to visit (at Hale’s invitatio)n. Hale plans to propose to Kenzi, and wants her mother’s approval. Kenzi briefly reconciles with Galina, believing her mother had ended her relationship with Bogden, her abusive stepfather. It turns out Galina lied about that, so Kenzi tells her to leave. (Bogden never makes an appearance on Lost Girl.)
Because of her kerfuffle with relatives, Kenzi does not quite accept Hale’s proposal, but does wear Hale’s engagement ring. She and Bo decide to celebrate the almost engagement, and Bo goes out for snacks again. After Bo leaves, Massimo shows up and violently attacks Kenzi. Hale, who was upstairs, uses his siren powers on Massimo, and when he believes the druid is dead, turns his back on the corpse.
Unknown to Hale, Massimo has the Twig of Zamora in his pocket, and does not die. Instead he sneaks up behind the siren and runs a sword through his heart. This brings to mind the Xena: Warrior Princess episode “Return of Callisto“, in which Gabrielle’s husband Perdicus is stabbed from behind with a sword not long after their wedding.
Since Kenzi gave Massimo the Twig of Zamora in payment for the fae power she acquired at the start of Season 4, she feels that Hale’s death is her fault. The scenes following Hale’s death are the most intense of the series for Ksenia Solo, as she begs Bo to bring Hale back to life like she brought Dyson back in “The Ceremony” (episode 3.9). Bo refuses, saying she would use so much of Kenzi’s chi to do it, and Kenzi would die. Bo does use her powers to calm Kenzi, and lessen her misery.

Adam Kenneth Wilson as the homeless man who points the Revenant hunters toward Laveau.
During his reign as the Blood King, Trick (Rick Howland) used his blood to erase Rainer from history. Suddenly, after an unexplained time delay following the breaking of Rainer’s ‘curse’, Rainer is literally written back into history. (The history books actually get thicker.) When Tamsin sees a reappeared drawing of Rainer she does not recognize him. “Hello!” she says, “who is the historical hottie?” Bo replies: “What do you mean? It’s Rainer. That’s your boss.” Tamsin replies with certainty: “That’s not my Boss.” It was not Rainer who sent Tamsin in search of a succubus with ‘eyes both brown and blue’.
Miscellaneous Info

Massimo with the Twig of Zamora — Rozon also stars in two soon-to-be-released films by James Mark — INFILTRATE and KARATE GHOST.
Marie Laveau was the Creole “Voodoo Queen” of New Orleans until her death in 1881. She reportedly healed the sick, provided for the poor, and presided over spiritual rites. Laveau is buried in New Orleans, in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1.
Ksenia Solo’s stunt double in episodes 4.10 and 4.11 was Christine Kwon. Tim Rozon’s stunt double in episode 4.11 was Geoff Meech, who also doubles for Anson Mount on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
In “Hail, Hale” (episode 3.12) The Twig of Zamora stopped an insect from biting Hale, and in “Those Who Wander” (episode 3.13) it prevented The Morrigan from torturing Kenzi, therefore when Massimo jumped into the fire with the twig in his pocket in “Turn to Stone” (episode 4.4), he was physically protected, so Massimo’s burn scars must be psychosomatic. He believed the fire would burn him, and The Twig couldn’t protect him from himself.
