Krampus and the Candy Factory
LOST GIRL – Episode 408 – Groundhog Fae – SPOILERS ⁓
On their way to Trick’s Yule party, Bo (Anna Silk), Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried), and Lauren (Zoie Palmer) stop at a service station. Bo washes the Camaro because she needs to clean off the guts of an Under Fae she struck with it recently, while they were searching for the missing Helskór. That search hit “another dead end” which Bo explains was actually an Ogre. Bo pays for gas and takes candy from a dish on the counter.
An Ogre named Oscar (played by Noah Dalton Danby) appeared at the start of “Raging Fae” (episode 2.10).
The Fae celebrate Yule in summer, and this might indicate that they originated in the southern hemisphere. When they went north, they kept celebrating the festival on the June Solstice. Humans somehow decided to associate the celebration with the original season rather than with the original date.
Litha, the festival of the summer solstice, is the start of the Holly King‘s reign. Barbi Gardner wrote in Outdoor Apothecary of the myths surrounding that festival: “On Litha night, the fae come out to play tricks on humans. Litha to them means a battle of dark and light…Folklore says that they’ve even dragged a human or two into their world.”
In a journal entry dated December 1827, James Macarthur talked about the difficulties of observing Christmas in an Australian summer, and suggested moving the festivities to a cooler season.

Party guests ‘Bottle Brunette‘ (Ruth Goodwin) and Lady Roids (Shannon Leroux), who also was one of The Glaive‘s guards in “Truth and Consequences” (episode 2.19).
After waking alone in the backseat of the car, Bo heads to the party. She almost immediately encounters Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten), who is pleased and surprised that Bo can also see they’re in a time loop. Tamsin took a bus to the party and stopped for gum at the same gas station where Bo washed the car. Like Bo, she ate the candy that was on the counter. Bo’s time loop always restarts in the backseat of the Camaro with Danny Fromajio singing “Don’t Forget About Me This Christmas” on the radio.
Bo arm-wrestles a Sasquatch named Lady Roids, (Shannon Leroux), and after much awkwardness, Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) and Hale (K C Collins) finally have sex.
Upstairs, and seemingly not involved in the time loop, Lauren reattaches Vex’s hand which was severed in “Let the Dark Times Roll” (episode 4.5). With the help of Dark Belch Beer laced with Choga Sweat, Dyson and Lauren decide they like each other, although they disagree on whether or not to give Bo the box addressed to her care of the Dark Fae Archives.

Party guests ‘Fugly‘ (Julian De Zotti) and Choga (Darryl Hinds)
Tamsin and Bo notice that Bruce (Rob Archer) has vanished. When Tamsin also vanishes into the wallpaper, Bo tells Hale what’s going on, and he explains that Krampus, an ancient Fae who feeds on guilt, fear, and regret, is likely responsible for the time loop. Bo goes looking for Tamsin at the service station and finds a candy factory below ground, with Tamsin strapped to a conveyor belt about to be turned into candy.
“I’m the reason the wanderer found you,” the Valkyrie confesses to Bo. “In a previous life, I hunted Fae fugitives for a price. I was a Valkyrie. I was the best, and I was greedy. One look into his eyes and I knew I’d never met true evil, not until then. I told myself I was powerless to refuse this beast, so I accepted his bounty to find a woman. I took comfort that the girl he described couldn’t possibly exist.”
Bo forgives Tamsin, and Krampus (R D Reid) over the objections of his son Jeffrey (Ken Hall), waves Tamsin away in a puff of green. He sends Larry away in a puff of orange, and Bruce (who is patiently waiting to be turned into candy) vanishes in a lavender cloud. Bo, however, is teleported onto the conveyor belt. To be released, she must confess her fears, and what she fears most is what Rainer might cause her to become. Once she admits this, she vanishes like the others, but in blue.
The colour of light emitted as people vanish from the candy factory is determined by their relative mass. The most lightweight of them vanishes emitting orange light. The most massive person (Bruce) emits long waves of lavender light.
Bo returns to the party. Tamsin can’t go back in because Dark Fae can’t be at a Light Fae Yule party after midnight. Kenzi goes back in, but not before giving Bo that mysterious package addressed to her. When Bo opens it, she finds a jar of the black smoke, the same stuff that kidnapped her from the Dal at the end of “Those Who wander” (episode 3.13).
