As Gone As A Girl Can Get
LOST GIRL – Episode 401 – In Memoriam – SPOILERS ⁓
Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) sneaks into a warehouse where something belonging to The Una Mens is being stored. Two monks place a large bamboo chest on a flatbed truck, and she is about to open the chest when one of the monks returns and grabs her. Using the pseudo-fae power she acquired from Massimo the Druid, she convinces the monk (Adam Cassidy) that she’s a Sprite. She needs the disguise because after humans attacked The Dal in “Hail, Hale” (episode 3.12), The Morrigan declared all claimed humans (e.g. Kenzi and Lauren) terrorists.
After the incident, Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) walks her home, and they make out for a while, but are interrupted when a potential client knocks.

At the same time every day, Dyson returns to the scene of the truck crash from which Tamsin disappeared, hoping she will return.
The client is Aife (Inga Cadranel) and she wants to hire Kenzi to find her daughter Bo, someone no one but Aife remembers. The succubus shows Dyson a recuerdo coil hidden behind her lower eyelid. (Recuerdo means “memory” in Spanish.) Dyson says that’s ‘hard proof’ that someone has been messing with Aife’s memory. Kenzi takes the case and visits Trick (Rick Howland) looking for more information. He explains that to reverse the memory theft, she’ll need the Recuerdo Compass, which was lost off the shores of Madagascar when a ship called the Esme Fierce ran aground. The compass was salvaged at great expense by a collector named Engleram. When Trick sees the photo of Bo, he begins to shake violently and says: “Tell me everything you know about your client.”

Massimo (Tim Rozon) brings Kenzi her ‘spark extract, mined from the genitals of a sprite’
Asked who might be behind the memory theft, Trick suggests Dr. Snook (Gord Rand), an Ortenax Fae that feeds off memories, and moonlights as an eye doctor. When Snook sees the recuerdo coils on Kenzi and Dyson, he explains that someone much more talented and powerful than he was responsible for the work.
Every year, Engleram, the guy who has the compass, throws a big bash, and this year’s event is happening soon. Dyson visits The Morrigan looking for a way to get tickets. Evony (Emmanuelle Vaugier) is believed dead, and Vex (Paul Amos) is now the leader of The Dark. Absent any memory of Bo, Vex has reverted to being the sadistic sort of Mesmer he was in “Vexed” (episode 1.8). Dyson blackmails the new Morrigan into providing three tickets to Engleram’s Ball after he finds aromatic evidence that Evony is alive and imprisoned nearby.
Engleram (George Takei) is an Amphisbaena (snakes with a head at either end). They sprang from blood that dripped from the severed head of the Medusa. (Amphisbaena in Greek means ‘goes both ways’). Engleram has the power to grant wishes, and each year favours one of his party guests with one wish. He singles out Kenzi for the honour after she, Hale (K C Collins), and Dyson perform an impressive three-way tango.
Kenzi and Dyson get hold of the Recuerdo Compass and align it with True North, causing everyone’s memories of Bo to return, and things mostly go back to normal, but, in the Una Mens’ warehouse, something oozes from the bamboo chest Kenzi was investigating at the start of things.
Just before her memories return, Kenzi breaks off her relationship with Dyson: “…all of it, it isn’t right. It hasn’t been for awhile,” she tells him. “And my heart hurts, Dyson, and I don’t know why. Besides: when you’re in love, you know. Right?”
All of Aife’s memories return just as Trick finds her. She pulls a knife and runs at him. Lauren (Zoie Palmer) is on the run from The Una Mens and is some distance from the compass so she is one of the last to remember. The episode’s final image is a closeup of Bo’s eyes opening, presumably when her memory returns.
Miscellaneous Info
Anna Silk appears for only a few seconds in this episode. Her son Sam was born on 1 May 2013, and Silk did not return to the Lost Girl set until seven weeks later.

Tamsen McDonough as Janet, Dr. Snook’s secretary. McDonough is also Lucy on Killjoys, and she told Sarah Goodwin of The Mary Sue: ‘When I was auditioning, one of the notes I was given was that the producers really liked the sassiness of my Lost Girl character, and to see if I could channel some of that vibe into Lucy.’
Kenzi gets an ad in the mail from Grimley’s Cherry Fest. She and Bo went to a Cherry Festival in “There’s Bo Place Like Home” (episode 3.7).
Gord Rand played another character named Snook in a short film titled “Lost Girl” (totally unconnected with the TV show), written and directed by Anna Keel about a private detective’s assistant who becomes inexplicably obsessed with the case of a missing girl. The film was released in 2013 and can be viewed in its entirety on Vimeo.

When Aife charms the waitress (Virna Kim) into forgiving the bill, Kenzi briefly remembers Bo doing the same thing with the same waitress in episode 101 “It’s a Fae Fae, Fae World“
Ksenia Solo talked about the dance scene with Jamie Ruby of SciFi Vision: “It was an incredible and very tough experience. The reason why it was tough is because we had extremely little time, so most of the days it would be myself or Kris or K.C. running from a long day at the studio and running to dance rehearsals. And Kris had never danced before, and yes, I have previous training, but I had never done anything like this before. So I think specifically the boys were very skeptical. We were lucky in the fact that we had a very talented and gifted choreographer [Nikita Kaminsky] who really pushed us to our limits…I did everything myself from start to finish.”
The Ortenax (sometimes called Ertenax) is a mythical fish found in the Euphrates river. Anyone holding a bone from an ortenax forgets everything but the task at hand. An ortenax bone was part of the handle of King David’s sword.
