The Angelus/Dyson Equivalence
LOST GIRL – Episode 407 – La Fae Epoch – SPOILERS ⁓
“An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.”

Cassie the Oracle (Vanessa Matsui) is called upon to help Bo investigate after the Una Mens accuse Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried) of murder. Cassie climbs into bed with Bo but only to assist her in probing Dyson’s memories to find out what really happened. Doctor Lewis (Zoie Palmer) is there to monitor the procedure, which is kind of like a long-distance mind-meld achieved by tying the “red string of destiny” around the ankle of each participant. Meanwhile, Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) masquerades as a monk to give the imprisoned wolfman a sponge bath so she can tie the red string to his ankle.
It was La Belle Epoch, the period between the Franco-Prussian conflict and World War I. We learned last episode that many influential people from this era, including Einstein and Madam Curie, were Fae. In 1899, one year after Angelus was cursed by a Romanian gypsy and turned into an angsty superhero, Dyson was a con-man living in France. Fitzpatrick McCorrigan (Rick Howland) rescued him from the irate father of two milkmaids, and then sent Dyson on a quest for something called the “hel-shoes” (Helskor) to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. After successfully acquiring the hel-shoes, Dyson discovers McCorrigan is the Blood King, and swears fealty to him.
The Blood King was in hiding. Dyson nicknames him Trick, and after the events of this episode the two of them will travel to the Americas together. They will manage to get there even though their ship is sunk by mermaids, something Dyson will reveal in “Waves” (Episode 4.10.),
Flora Bloom (Zoie Palmer), one of Dyson’s 19th century romantic conquests, was also seeing a Prince (Ron Kennell) at the time. The prince is not specifically identified, and happens to be in possession of said hel-shoes. Flora is a singer who performs regularly at a nearby tavern. Dyson finds out what he can from the bartender (Ksenia Solo) there, whose name is Angel.
Dyson cold-cocks the Prince and steals the shoes, deciding to hide them on Flora’s feet, and then finds they cannot be removed. As a result, Flora goes on an Angelus-like killing spree, but before that happens, Dyson and Flora have sex. Bo sees herself as Dyson, Flora as Lauren, and gets to watch her two exes have sex with each other while participating in the act as a male.
The Una Mens put Kenzi in a cage with Dyson and the wolf explains with questionable reasoning that, despite the fact that he didn’t kill anyone in 1899, he believes himself responsible for Flora’s death. Kenzi looks at him like he needs to see a shrink. Eventually, Bo discovers that the Una Mens themselves were responsible for the crimes of which Dyson was accused. The parallel to the Dreyfus Affair is a vague one, but it is there.
